Sustainable approach to textiles is required to change the industry for the better. An approach that prioritises environment within every decision made. Mhairi consciously designs and constantly updates processes to better the quality and sustainability of the studio. Some examples of eco-friendly methods include water-based pigment inks and digital printing technologies, which mean the detrimental effects of traditional textile printing practices are minimised. This approach reduces the consumption of water and chemicals, while also decreasing the amount of waste produced during the manufacturing process. The fabric is also a big part of the design process. Strong connections are made with suppliers to ensure materials are sources ethically. Where possible natural and organic materials are utilised as well as reusing and reducing waste by creating with off-cuts, deadstock and end of roll fabrics. Embracing these solutions not only contributes to a greener and healthier planet, but also paves the way for a more responsible and sustainable textiles industry.
